It's a classic Amazon move to welcome and support services partners in the AWS Marketplace, but it's genius to funnel customers' pro services spending through the marketplace - for the data, for a fee, but centrally to stimulate a reverse multiple which means an even further lift in AWS consumption.
But how can the broader ISV ecosystem execute a similar strategy?
In the aggregate, ISVs large and small generate trillions of dollars in pro services spending.
Capturing some of that spend through a transactional marketplace capability would net ISVs powerful volumes of data, insight, plus stimulate retention, growth and revenue upside.
But building a transactional marketplace capability is a monumental ask (run it by your CEO, CFO or CPO), not to mention completely off-strategy for most organizations.
And think twice about getting lured and locked into directing deeply valued customer relationships to the AWS Marketplace or other hyperscalers to procure consulting and pro services.
