Matt Turck at FirstMark Capital did it again! And he went way deep. Like, really really deep.
For example, this year's write-up had around 10 thousand words, while last years came in just under 4 thousand.
Clearly, heaps of inspiring #ecosystem developments in 2021, but also mountains of capital piling into red hot teams building game-changing solutions.
My team and I especially liked the new categories:
In Infrastructure:
- Reverse ETL
- Data Observability
- Privacy & Security
Note: We see the latter, especially security solutions, exploding in the coming 3-5 years.
In Analytics:
- Data Catalogs & Discovery
- Augmented Analytics
- Metrics Stores
- Query Engines
Note: NLG, or Natural Language Generation, which sits in Augmented Analytics, is a big one to watch. An especially super exciting area.
Join amazing independent consultants, consultancies, agencies and SIs, all providing systems and data services on-demand.
In Machine Learning and AI:
- Model Building
- Feature Stores
- Deployment and Production
Note: I'm personally curious to learn more about Feature Stores, but it's the Deployment and Production of ML models that I'm most excited about.
In Open Source:
- Format
- Orchestration
- Data Quality & Observability
Note: I'm a luddite when it comes to open source. Lots to learn here.
And these key trends for 2021 are in line with what we're seeing flow via the MeasureMatch marketplace:
- The data mesh
- A busy year for DataOps
- It’s time for real time
- Metrics stores
- Reverse ETL
- Data sharing
Read all about it here.
And then book a pro via the MeasureMatch marketplace 💪 to make these systems, and the data, sing!

Investors regularly ask “scale” questions. They annoy me. Yes, the questions and, often, the investors.
MeasureMatch works hard to ensure every client project has the right amount of detail for our network to respond well. We ask that our services providers deliver the same level of care when expressing interest.
