I am a data scientist that is highly interested in the practical applications of advanced modelling and optimization techniques. I hold a master's degree in econometrics and have completed a large variety of data analysis projects in both large companies in the Netherlands as well as in a freelance setting. I personally believe that the greatest challenge that a good data scientist faces is not the implementation of algorithms and models, but translating a real life problem to one that can be solved using data science techniques and communicating results in such a way that the client can both understand the process and efficiently implement the findings. I have experience in interpreting and advising on results to both businesspeople with little knowledge of statistical modelling and experts in the field and pride myself on reporting results in such a way that they are both interesting and directly able to be used. When it comes to a project I like to select the tool that is most approriate for the task at hand. Some of the tools I am proficient in include R, Pyhton, Stata, Matlab, SQL, PIG and Hive. Due to my background in Econometrics have extensive knowledge of modeling techniques. Some of these that I have worked with intensively include panel data regressions (fixed and random effects), simultaneous equation models, stochastic linear programming, maintenance planning and optimization, survival analysis, dynamic econometrics, bayesian statistics and a variety of both supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques like K-means, (regularized) logistic regression, support vector machines, decision trees/forests, naive Bayes and neural networks. Some examples of projects I have succesfully worked on in the past include a project for bol.com ('the amazon.com of the the Netherlands') where I advised on optimal promotion techniques to be used for all 15 million products offered and a project at Royal Wagenborg which resulted in a Monte Carlo simulation tool
